Wood Fence Styles

Board-on-Board (Overlapping)

$25–35/ft

Pickets overlap each other by 1–1.5 inches. No gaps from either side. Full privacy from every angle. The most popular style in Austin by far — you'll see it in 80% of neighborhoods.

Side-by-Side (Flat Panel)

$20–30/ft

Pickets sit flush next to each other with minimal gaps. Uses less lumber than board-on-board. Good privacy, slightly lower cost. The "standard" privacy fence.

Shadow Box (Alternating)

$22–32/ft

Pickets alternate on each side of the rail. Looks finished from both sides — your neighbor sees the same quality you do. Semi-private with airflow. Looks great in neighborhoods where good-neighbor relations matter.

Picket Fence

3–4 foot tall decorative fencing. Front yards, garden borders, property line markers. Dog-ear, gothic or flat-top picket styles. Not for privacy — for curb appeal and pet containment.
